The Beatles' final tour was in the United States in August 1966. The last
concert was August 29, 1966, at Candlestick Park, San Francisco.
The Beatles, as a group, never toured after 1966. In 1967 they performed
and recorded "All You Need Is Love" live on television to a satellite
audience of millions, and in 1968 they taped a promotional video for "Hey
Jude" with a small audience that was invited to join in and sing the
"Na-na-na" section at the end. Toward the end of 1968, the Beatles' fan
club announced that a concert would take place in December or January, and
tickets were prepared, but the event never took place. In 1969, they
performed an unannounced set on the roof of their office building in
downtown London. The "Rooftop Concert" was the last time the Beatles played
together in public.
John never toured as a solo act, but he did perform individual concerts
(mostly benefits) between 1969 and 1974, as well as appearing in the
"Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus" in 1968.
George toured the U.S. in 1974, and Japan in 1991, and performed occasional
single shows. His "Concert for Bangla Desh" in 1971 (with Ringo on drums)
formed the template for celebrity benefit shows. John was invited to
perform at "Bangla Desh" but had to cancel at the last minute.
Paul toured English universities with Wings in 1971-72, and went on major
tours in 1976, 1989-90, 1993 and 2002, as well as performing other single
shows like the Concert for Kampuchea in 1979 and the Concert for New York in
2001. His planned tour of Japan in 1980 was cancelled when he was busted at
the airport with half a pound of marijuana in his suitcase.
Ringo has toured with his All-Starr Band on numerous occasions since 1989,
and his studio band the Roundheads toured Europe with him in 1998 to promote
the "Vertical Man" album. They also played one U.S. concert for VH1
Storytellers. He and Paul played at the "Concert for George" in 2002 in
London.
In 1979, Eric Clapton married Patti Boyd (George's ex-wife). At the wedding
reception, Paul, George and Ringo all jammed together on stage. John was
still alive at the time but did not attend the event. There are no known
recordings or even photographs of this performance.
