John Lennon referred to his birthplace, Liverpool, in many of his songs.
1. Strawberry Fields Forever - obviously about John's recollection of the orphanage which was just around the corner from his home in Menlove Avenue. The children's home was situated in Strawberry Field, along Beaconsfield Road, Liverpool, L25.
2. Cast Iron Shore - from " Glass Onion ", refers to the Dingle Shore in Liverpool, more commonly known as The Cast Iron Shore to the locals. In 1984, the area was transformed for the Liverpool Garden Festival, and included a Yellow Submarine and a Beatle maze. The submarine was eventually moved to the Albert Dock in 2000.

3. YOU ARE HERE - John begins the song with " nine ", and then the lyrics " From Liverpool to Tokyo ".
4. PENNY LANE - A song about a road and its roundabout, in Allerton village, Liverpool. Lennon described the song as reliving childhood.

John's original lyrics to In My Life, described an imaginary journey from Woolton / Allerton to Liverpool City Center. He mentions various landmarks along the journey. In it he refers to Penny Lane.

5. MAGGIE MAY - A traditional song, which John was very fond of, and he recorded it several times during his career. It has several references to Liverpool, and John sang it in a deep Liverpool ( 'scouse' ) accent.
6. GOODNIGHT VIENNA - A song John wrote and gave to Ringo Starr to record. The phrase " Goodnight Vienna ", is Liverpool slang.
