After Brain Epstein died John said " I knew we were f****d ". I heard him say it on a film. WHY ? Why was Epstein important at that time. The Beatles didn't need him. Did They

i shouldn't say that's true, not at all. the way he administered the financial and organising aspects of beatledom were the least... don't you consider the love, support, friendship, understanding??? i always thought this, brian's a hero for me... but even more so after seeing a musical that toured here in italy a couple of years ago, the translated title would be "eppy - the man who built the beatles' myth"... started with him taking the beatles on and ended with his death... was beautiful... the singer playing paul actually became my friend after one show (i saw it 5 times, 2 in cities diffent from my own)... also the writer --- all this to say... will there have been beatles without eppy??? undoubltedly. but undoubtedly it wouldn't have been the same. love jude

John Lennon later said about Brain:
We'd never have made it without Brain, and vice versa. Brain contributed as much as us in the early days, although we were the talent and he was the hustler. He wasn't strong enough to overbear us. Brain could never make us do what we didn't really want to do.
Although Brain got the Beatles to wear suits, John recalled:
He literally fuckin' cleaned us up and there were great fights between him and me over not wanting to dress up.

longish postscriptum to my earlier reply:
even "pagans" understand eppy's importance... think that two years ago, friends of mine who were in a little band had to find a birthday present for me, and since i sort of half managed them they came up with this huge handmade poster comparing the beatles' story with theirs and saying that i had the same significance in their history as brian had had in the beatles'... i found that just wonderful. the title of the banner was a ripoff of the above mentioned musical: tenny lane - the woman who built black eyed blonde's myth. tenny lane btw is me. we had gone bowling, and the guy timping in the names misspelt penny lane and that name kinda stuck. there. so here is my point - in scale, obviously.

It means that Brain put more time and effort into the Beatles than he probably wud have done. He certainly didn't promote other bands the way he promoted the Beatles. If he, and it looks like he did, fancy John, he wud have done anything to make them a success. He once said John was the main force of the group and John always played up to him; flirting with Brain a lot.

call me naive but i always thought brian put a special effort in the beatles because he believed in their potential... he certainly wouldn't have risked in a carreer so different than his own if he hadn't truly seen something in those boys, whom he was - rightly - convinced would become "bigger than elvis". no??? love jude ps: don't think me polemic... i'm just a young curious kid, i wanna know!!!

Speaking of Brian, I've always felt so bad for him...how he was gay at a time it was ILLEGAL to be gay (which was just stupid) and died of an OD, lonely and unhappy. If I could go back in time I'd give him a hug. I definitely don't think we would internationally know of The Beatles if it weren't for Brian; I guess, perhaps, someone else might have discovered them and helped them later on, but they probably not have been as popular and good as they were/are. Interestingly enough, he died on the same date of my birthday (many years before I was born, though). Poor Brian, I wonder if John later felt bad for making fun of him like he did...

John loved Brian! He was really upset when he died. Weird, about your birthday!

He was rather cruel to Eppy at times, though, wasn't he? ...Except perhaps during their Spain vacation! Hehe.

Why wasn't that included in AHDN?? That would have made the film so much more interesting.
