The other morning I was looking for something different to listen to so I downloaded some cover versions od Beatles' songs. I was curious to see who did them well and who's were bad. So my question is has anyone heard any of these?
The following were AWFUL. I mean painful to listen to:
Ticket to Ride -- Carpenters (I would rather be shot than listen to that again)
We Can Work it Out -- *NSYNC (sounded like someone literally throwing up at the microphone.)
Norwegian Wood -- Dave Mathews Band (These guys are SO Bad. How did he stretch this out to 6 minutes? He added all kinds of stuff. Might have been the worst and that's saying something with this bunch.)
Yesterday -- Boys II Men and Michael Bolton (I don't know which one hurt worse)
Hepl! -- U2 (Why did they try and do it as a ballad? If they kept it straight it could have been good.)
She Came in through the Bathroom Window -- Joe c**ker (No where near as good as his version of With a Little Help form My Friends despite being the better song. Just not as good a match for Joe c**ker)
Hey Jude -- The Greatful Dead. (Sounded like a bunch of drunk guys at a bar at 3am. Completely unlistenable)
I did find a few I liked:
Yesterday -- James Taylor (might be the best cover version I've heard)
Ob-La Di Ob-La Da -- No Doubt (really good and it fit their style)
Accross the Universe -- Fiona Apple (I was surprised to like it)
Let it Be -- Billy Joel
Day Tripper -- Jimmy Hendrix
I am the Walrus -- I liked both the Oasis and Frank Zappa covers
Taxman -- Stevie Ray Vaughn
Just thought I'd share and get some comments on who likes/dislikes what. I'm not normally a big cover guy but some many Beatles songs have been that I wanted to see how well different people did what. It was interesting.
Thoughts?

i've heard most of the covers you speak of... most were unlistenable, you're quite right... in my humble opinion including, as i've already said on the pop idol post, fiona apple's version of across the universe - but that could be just a problem between me and women singing beatles songs, it's something i just can't stand. although there is an italian tribute band with a rather good female front singer - dunno. still. the worst experience ever, surpassing even will young's abominable version of the long and winding road, is - wait for it - dolly parton singing help!. you can imagine... on secon hand, you can't even begin to imagine just how horrible it is... the "help i need somebody, help not just anybody, help" bit is sung so slow that if she went any slower she would be going backwards... then from "when i was younger" onwards she gives it an appalling countryish twist which makes the rest nothing short of unrecognisable. oh my concept by which we measure our pain... i sing help! better under the shower, and that's saying something!!! so if you're as lucky as not to have heard it yet, take my word for it and don't even touch it with a plastic one!!! love jude, [glow=red,2,300]HORRIFIED[/glow]

guns n' roses wonderful version of live and let die can eb found on the use your illusion 1 collection. as for aerosmith, they've covered come together for the armageddon ost. personally i think it a pretty good version - personal yet not far fetched enough to be offensive to a fan's sensitive ears !!! real love jude

have you ever listen to Tina Turner's version of "Help!"? I bet you won't recognize the song, she made it so slow and sad...but it's fantastic! and so is David Bowie's "Across the universe" (Lp: Young Americans) recorder with John who plays the guitar and sing with David. then there's Elton John's "lucy In The Sky" during *that* concert in Madison Square Garden with John. those are the one I like. have you ever listen to the Oasis version of "Helter Skelter"? I think it was some kinda B-side... Love Mel

as for aerosmith, they've covered come together for the armageddon ost. Well actually Aerosmith covered Come Together on the 1978 soundtrack for the Bee Gees film "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Great version! Michael Jackson also did a version...wonder if he was referring to his special little bedfriends after a few wines..
